Perspectives

What the work teaches.

Reflections on strategy, fundraising and communications drawn from more than 25 years in the field.

These are perspectives, not posts.

They are written occasionally, when there is something worth saying, and draw on more than 25 years leading strategy, communications, media and fundraising for hospital foundations, healthcare organizations and national charities.

Rather than comment on trends, these perspectives explore what experience has taught about participation, philanthropy, communications, partnerships and the work of connecting people to purpose.

Some are strategic.

Some are reflective.

Some simply ask better questions.

All are written for people responsible for moving missions forward.

If a single idea here changes how you think about your own work, it will have done its job.

Coming Soon

The first Perspectives are currently being written.

Future Perspectives may explore topics such as:

  • Why the best nonprofit campaigns start with a strategist, not a spreadsheet
  • What peer-to-peer fundraising gets wrong about motivation
  • The acquisition trap: why growing your list isn't the same as growing your mission
  • When a campaign plateaus, the problem is rarely the campaign
  • How to build a case for support that actually lands in one meeting
  • What 18 years of signature events taught me about what moves people
  • The difference between a communications plan and a strategy
  • Why measurement matters most before the campaign starts

New Perspectives are published occasionally.

Never on a schedule.
